Rummage/Garage Sale & Auction- Scout House - Sebring, Florida

This was our first attempt at the "Rummage Sale" thing, and I do have to say that we received far more items than we had anticipated. The sale went great and the Troop made quite a bit of money! Unfortuantely, the sailboat did not get sold; In fact, no one even placed a bid. We have decided to put the sailboat in the newspaper classifieds to try and sell it that way.

A special thanks to all of those that helped and participated in the sale; And an even greater thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Camp for their generous donations and hard work with their two son's and daughter helping out too!

United Way Golf Tournament (Raffel Tickets) - Highlands Ridge, North - Avon Park, Florida

This was a last minute invitation by our friends at Sertoma. They asked if we would like to help out at the United Way Golf Tournament and sell raffel tickets. It was a long day, but in return we earned some money for helping out.

Camp Out at Camp Cricket - Bartow, Florida - $10 Scout / $20 Cub Family

Weekend camp out with Cub Scout Pack 846. A fun filled weekend camp out that started just as any other. We arrived Friday night and setup camp. We were told of tree houses at the campground, but after inspecting them we decided that it would be too dangerous for the Scouts. Saturday we began our activities; Knot tying for the Cub Scouts and a nature hike for the Boy Scouts. After our activities we went to the soccer fields for a little games of kickball (I was sore for days!). After kickball we had lunch, followed by a Safe Swim class (Thanks Mr. Mac). We then took the boys to the local pool for free swim. After free swim, we had a craft activity where the Scouts made there own bug candles. We followed that with a little dutch oven instruction by Mr. Hartseil and Mr. Singley, followed by dinner. After dinner we prepared for our evening campfire, which our Scouts had prepared and acted out skits for the Cubs and there parents. The Cubs also had skits, which they performed for the group. After our campfire program we had Cracker Barrel. Each boy made up a song for the treat that they wanted (With a choice of Ding Dongs, HoHos and Cherry Coke, you can imagine the humor!).

We woke up Sunday morning and packed up camp. We left camp and had some extra time, so we let the boys play on the playground for a while. Overall it was a very impressive camp out. I would like to call it a miniature summer camp. Thanks to all the volunteers and parents that helped make our last camp out before Summer Camp a total success.

April 2003

25th, 26th, 27th
Camp out at Fish Eating Creek - Palmdale, Florida - $10 Scout

Weekend camp out The camp out started as any other spring/summer camp out would. It all came crashing down once we went to bed. By that time it was already drizzling rain. At about 2:00am on Saturday, a flash of lightning and crash of thunder woke most everyone. Then the rain came! ...and came ...and came. It lasted until 8:00am, with drizzles off and on most of the day. By 4:00pm, it had mostly cleared and was beginning to be a great day. Even with the flooding rains, we were still able to have a good time and do a little fishing.

12th - 11:00am until 4:00pm
5th Annual Chicken BBQ at Wal-Mart - Sebring, Florida

Our 5th Annual Chicken BBQ went very well. We sold all of our chicken, even though about 150 or so went after 4:00pm. Thanks to all of those that donated time and materials to help make our biggest fund raiser a success. An even bigger thanks to all of the adult volunteers that helped out with the work and cleanup.

(We will have pictures as soon as they are developed!)

March 2003

28th, 29th, 30th
Camp out at Brantley's Property - Lorida, Florida - $10 Scout

Weekend camp out The camp out started very well, with the Scouts setting camp without much instruction. Overall, they worked well together. Saturday we worked on knots, which we had started the Wednesday prior. All of the boys showed significant progress in just a few days time. The Square Lashing was also taught to the Scouts. We ended the camp out with a flag burning ceremony.

(Sorry about the lack of pictures for this camping trip. I was teaching most of the time and totally forgot that I had even brought my camera with me.)

February 2003

28th, March 1st, 2nd
Camp out at Watson's Property - Sebring, Florida - 10$ Scout

Weekend camp out Scout tested their scouting skills by erecting our American Flag. After a little fishing, they then sat down and drew up ideas for our next gateway. Totin' Chip was taught by Mr. Furman. The boys began learning how to work as a patrol.

January 2003
